Fix Your Mind on Things Above

Jesus warned us to be aware of false prophets. This does not just mean those that teach false doctrine, but also those who cause you to think on the things of the world and not Christ. No where does scripture teach that we are to focus on evil, darkness, wickedness, Illuminati, satan and his works and his workers. While we should be aware of what is occurring around us so as to not have our heads in the sand – these things should NOT be our focus and we should NOT be spending an inordinate amount of time in darkness. The devil has many traps and one thing I’ve noticed – the person who spends their days studying the dark side, is void of joy and peace in the Holy Ghost. We cannot drink polluted water without getting sick.  Spoken in love.

An Examination: The Mary of Scripture Compared with the Mary of the Roman Catholic Church

In Uncategorized on December 11, 2017 at 2:48 pm

The purpose of this study is borne out of love and edification for my Catholic friends.

It has been said that because I have come to the truth of scripture and oppose the doctrines of the Roman Catholic Church that I “don’t like Catholics,” and other like comments.  That is so very far from the truth.  Love speaks truth.  Please read this study knowing the intent of my heart, without offense in hopes that you will find the original faith once delivered to the saints.

Biblical Christianity, the faith handed down through Jesus Christ to the apostles, and to the early church is not the religion of Rome. Having been raised as a Catholic, attended Catholic school, received their sacraments, and participated in many other RCC functions, I am fully aware of their teachings. However, when the Light of Christ shined in my life and I searched the scriptures, I clearly saw that they bring forth another gospel, and have perverted the Word of God.

Am I become your enemy because I tell you the truth? ~ Apostle Paul

  • Mary, the mother of Jesus is venerated, worshiped and prayed to in every mass, and in every religious ritual.  The use of rosary beads is encouraged and their missals contain prayers to Mary, whom they call the Blessed Mother and the Mother of God.

File photo of Pope Francis using incense as he celebrates Mass at Verano cemetery in Rome on feast of All Saints

  • Further, Mary is determined to be without sin – and as a result of that state – was assumed into heaven, not tasting death. This means she had immortality.

  • Mary is prayed to for salvation and considered to be a co-redemptrix by Rome.

  • Mary was said to remain in a state of virginity for her entire life.

  • “Mary” has appeared as a sign and a wonder and seen by many.

Jesus taught us to ask and it will be given;  seek and we will find;  He promised to send His Holy Spirit to lead us into all truth.  Jesus Christ IS the Word of God and we are exhorted to search the scriptures to determine if the things we hear are, in fact, of God.  Having done all that is required of us, we will learn that the Catholic Church is not biblical Christianity – and we are exhorted to contend for the faith once delivered to the saints.  (BTW – saints are not determined by Rome, but a saint is simply a holy person, who has been forgiven of their sins and following Christ.)

The purpose of this writing is not to address all of the errors of Rome, but to focus on Mary, the mother of Jesus, the wife of Joseph, the cousin of Elizabeth, and mother of her other children (which Rome denies) , James, and Joses, and Simon, and Judas, as well as daughters.

In regard to Mary worship, read:

Exo 20:2  I am the LORD thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.  3  Thou shalt have no other gods before me.
Exo_20:5  Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;

In regard to praying to Mary:

Luk_11:2  And he said unto them, When ye pray, say, Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so in earth.

Mat_6:6  But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.

Scriptures teach us not to learn the ways of the heathen, who pray to their many idols (gods):

Jer 10:2  Thus saith the LORD, Learn not the way of the heathen, and be not dismayed at the signs of heaven; for the heathen are dismayed at them.

The rosary is a series of repetitious prayers.  See what Jesus spoke of this:

Mat 6:7  But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.

On the topic of praying to images/statues of Mary (as the pope does):

Deu 4:15  Take ye therefore good heed unto yourselves; for ye saw no manner of similitude on the day that the LORD spake unto you in Horeb out of the midst of the fire: 16  Lest ye corrupt yourselves, and make you a graven image, the similitude of any figure, the likeness of male or female, 17  The likeness of any beast that is on the earth, the likeness of any winged fowl that flieth in the air, 18  The likeness of any thing that creepeth on the ground, the likeness of any fish that is in the waters beneath the earth: 19  And lest thou lift up thine eyes unto heaven, and when thou seest the sun, and the moon, and the stars, even all the host of heaven, shouldest be driven to worship them, and serve them, which the LORD thy God hath divided unto all nations under the whole heaven.

Hos_13:2  And now they sin more and more, and have made them molten images of their silver, and idols according to their own understanding, all of it the work of the craftsmen: they say of them, Let the men that sacrifice kiss the calves.

Exo 20:4  Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: 5  Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;

Lev 26:1  Ye shall make you no idols nor graven image, neither rear you up a standing image, neither shall ye set up any image of stone in your land, to bow down unto it: for I am the LORD your God.

On the topic of Mary as a perpetual virgin – note:  Mary had children other than Jesus:

Mar_6:3  Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James, and Joses, and of Juda, and Simon? and are not his sisters here with us? And they were offended at him.

Mat_13:55  Is not this the carpenter’s son? is not his mother called Mary? and his brethren, James, and Joses, and Simon, and Judas?

On the Mary apparitions:

Deu 13:1  If there arise among you a prophet, or a dreamer of dreams, and giveth thee a sign or a wonder,

Deu 13:2  And the sign or the wonder come to pass, whereof he spake unto thee, saying, Let us go after other gods, which thou hast not known, and let us serve them; 3  Thou shalt not hearken unto the words of that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams: for the LORD your God proveth you, to know whether ye love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul.
Mat 24:24  For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.

Heb 1:1  God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets,
2  Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds;

Mar 13:22  For false Christs and false prophets shall rise, and shall shew signs and wonders, to seduce, if it were possible, even the elect.

2Co 11:13  For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ.  14  And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. 15  Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.

2Ch_18:22  Now therefore, behold, the LORD hath put a lying spirit in the mouth of these thy prophets, and the LORD hath spoken evil against thee.

1Ti 4:1  Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; 2  Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron;

Rev 16:13  And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs come out of the mouth of the dragon, and out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet. 14  For they are the spirits of devils, working miracles, which go forth unto the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty.

On the topic of Mary being without sin:
Luk 1:46  And Mary said, My soul doth magnify the Lord, 47  And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour.
Rom_3:23  For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
Rom_11:32  For God hath concluded them all in unbelief, that he might have mercy upon all.

Gal_3:22  But the scripture hath concluded all under sin, that the promise by faith of Jesus Christ might be given to them that believe.

On the assumption of Mary into heaven, not tasting death:

Heb_9:27  And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:

Gen 3:19  In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.

Rom 5:12  Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:

1Co_15:22  For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive.

1Ti_6:16  Who (Jesus) only hath immortality, dwelling in the light which no man can approach unto; whom no man hath seen, nor can see: to whom be honour and power everlasting. Amen.

On the subject of Mary as a Co-Redeemer/Redemptrix:

Act 4:12  Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

Mat 1:21  And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.

Luk 24:47  And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.

Joh 14:6  Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

Heb 7:25  Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.

Isa 63:3  I have trodden the winepress alone; and of the people there was none with me: for I will tread them in mine anger, and trample them in my fury; and their blood shall be sprinkled upon my garments, and I will stain all my raiment. 4  For the day of vengeance is in mine heart, and the year of my redeemed is come. 5  And I looked, and there was none to help; and I wondered that there was none to uphold: therefore mine own arm brought salvation unto me; and my fury, it upheld me.

Isa 53:10  Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in his hand.

The foundation of our faith is revealed in the scriptures.  These Words were penned by men of God inspired by the Holy Spirit.  They were also penned in letters to churches and by those who were eyewitnesses of the truths and teachings of Jesus Christ.  In the time that has elapsed since Christ ascended into heaven, many deviations and distortions of the scriptures have arisen.  The Apostle Paul warns that there would be those who present another gospel, deceiving the flock.  Further, the book of Revelation warns, with great severity, that we are not to add to or take away from the Word of God.

Jesus taught us to Love God with all of our heart;  and to love our neighbors as ourselves.  If we love God with all of our heart, we will seek out the book of the Lord and read, and be like the Bereans who sought the scriptures to determine if the preaching they heard was, in fact, of God.  The Apostle John tells us to try the spirits to see if they are of God, because many false prophets have entered the world, and Jesus Christ warned that many would come in His name and deceive many.

Accordingly, if we are bound by the love of God in our hears, we will stop following the doctrines of men and submit ourselves to Jesus Christ alone.  He is Lord and God, He is Master and Rabbi, He alone is Savior of the world and is well and able to teach us His Word.

I pray you will learn who Mary was and receive her as sister.  She indeed was precious in God’s sight and chosen to be the barer of our Messiah, and if she were alive today I would imagine she would say, as she spoke at the wedding at Cana:

Joh 2:5  His mother saith unto the servants, Whatsoever he saith unto you, do it.

Excellent teaching contrasting Jerusalem above with Jerusalem below.
I am from above – you are from below ~ Jesus

Rooted and Grounded In Christ

And their dead bodies shall lie in the street of the great city, which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt, where also our Lord was crucified. ~ Revelation 11:8

Historical Jerusalem, in Israel,  is the city where Jesus was crucified, and in the text above we have two significant descriptions about Jerusalem. It is called (1) the great city and (2) spiritually, Sodom and Egypt.

This is the true identity of historical Jerusalem in the eyes of God.

Even so, historical Jerusalem serves within the Biblical history of Israel as a type of the Heavenly Jerusalem.

Historical Jerusalem, where the temple was located,  was the focal point of the religious life of the Jewish people under the Law of Moses. However, in John 4, Jesus made it very clear that the time was then approaching when Jerusalem would no longer be the place where men go to worship God, for…
